Day One:
In the morning, our guides will meet you at Maturin airport in Monagas state. From here we leave by car to San Jose de Buja, where our fast motorboat will be waiting.

In two hours, we will will arrive at the Orinoco Atlantic Lodge on the northern edge of the Orinoco Delta. Where the fresh, dark glossy waters blend with the salty Atlantic ocean. This is where Christopher Columbus, on his third expedition to the New World, believed he had discovered a continent and not an island. His conclusion came about after witnessing the enormous amounts of fresh water flowing out of the Orinoco delta and into the sea. When Columbus reviewed the wide-ranging vegetation and giant mangrove trees lining the shores, he believed he had found the Garden of Eden.

In the afternoon we will take a trip in a motor boat through mangrove islands to observe the fauna and flora, including an island where bird’s shelter for the night and to watch the sunset over the delta.

Day Two:
After breakfast, we will travel to our Simuina camp where we will sleep overnight. While here we will venture deep into the delta jungle and through small rivers. Where the Warao Indians settled hundreds of years ago to escape and hide from the cannibal Carib Indians, who made regular trips from the Caribbean Islands to hunt the Warao, for food.

As we advance deeper into this land of alluring beauty, you will become aware of the transformation in flora. From strictly giant mangrove trees to a spectacular variety of trees and palms. This area is also rich in tropical wildlife, including blue and yellow macaws, toucans, parrots, hawks, catfish, tarpon, boa constrictors, tapirs, ocelots, cougars and jaguars.

We will also visit the indigenous Warao and learn how they adapted to life in this unforgiving environment. We will also travel in canoes through small rivers to observe the wildlife and an unforgettable jungle trek with expert guides, who will explain some of the many secrets of the delta. At the end of this day, we will sleep in hammocks like the Indiginous Warao.
